I am a New Zealand trained Primary School Teacher and have taught all levelsfrom New Entrants right through to year eight. The majority of my teaching experience has been in a year 3/4 class here in my home village of Mamaku. I am passionate about teaching and learning. I believe that children learn best when they are immersed in an environment that supports and nurtures them. I endeavor to create a classroom environment that is happy and vibrant, where all children feel valued and supported. It is important to me that the children have a variety of “hands on” learning experiences that are presented in contexts that are meaningful to them. This supports the discovery of their learning and encourages the children’s own inquires.
I had the fantastic experience working at Oak and Orca Bioregional School in Victoria, B.C., Canada, where I gained valuable experience teaching composite classes composed of students with diverse learning styles and strengths. I enjoyed teaching a variety of subjects with these students, from language arts to lower secondary mathematics. Experiential, hands-on learning that is engaging, meaningful, and holistic is important in my approach to teaching. I value each subject, as well as using effective strategies for students to have a meaningful experience though their educational path.
During my practicum, I taught a composite grade 7/8 class at Eagle Mountain Middle School in Port Moody, British Columbia. I gained experience teaching each subject, from French to Mathematics to Science, using the excellent platform of the British Columbia New Curriculum, and gained great experiences that informed my practice as a teacher. I’ve had some amazing educational experiences with students, from field trips to the mountains of Canada and tree planting in the mangrove forests of Java island, to helping organize and host a PYP 6 Exhibition, and participating in school community events, such as Athletic days and cultural celebrations. Last year, I had an unforgettable experience teaching grade 6 in Surabaya, Indonesia. I also had a lot of fun organizing and hosting soccer activities and games during extra-curricular hours at numerous schools I’ve had the pleasure to work a
